ShareThisBernard Golden's visit to Sun is an insightful article about a guy who recently visited Sun Microsystems and observed firsthand a company that has embraced the open source model and is still making money. After reading article ask yourself how often your own technology purchases have been vendor driven and not driven by your own thinking. Isn't it more comfortable to have someone tell you how to use technology than to have to discover that for yourself. Ultimately open source software could lead and does lead to open source thinking. There is a difference between falling prey to clever marketing and doing your own thinking.
How innovative is using Powerpoint to deliver a presentation. What new kind of thinking is really involved? How much different is user generated content in mashups similar to that found on Youtube and Google Video different from an electronic slideshow? One of my favorite spoofs is "Death by Powerpoint."

How can the use of open source applications and technologies really change education? Can education be changed? Does Education need to be changed? These are just some of the questions I've been asking myself and my peers. How can embracing an open source business model change your own bottom line and productivity.
